Matchmaking is the process of determining appropriate player pairings when players are queuing up to play Hearthstone. The matchmaking process functions differently for each game mode. In each case, the goal is the same: to try to find a player of similar matchmaking value rating, rank or record as possible. When a player enters the matchmaking queue the system will attempt to find another player in the queue with an identical matchmaking value. If a perfect match is not found, the matchmaking system will “wait a few seconds” and then search again. For information and statistics on specific types of matchmaking, see Ranked , Casual , and Arena. Matchmaking rating MMR is a special internal rating system used for certain types of matchmaking. MMRs are ‘hidden’ and cannot be viewed by players.

The quest to put Hearthstone in your pocket. Written by Jon Partridge Published on Right now we’re addicted to Hearthstone , Blizzard’s magic-throwing, Warcraft-inspired, card-slinging battle game that’s cooked up a storm on PCs and tablets and taken the eSports world by storm — and now it’s handily available on the small screen too, with the app now available to download on iPhone and Android smartphones.
Shrinking such a deep game down onto a screen smaller than five inches is no mean feat though. If you can bear to tear yourself away from tweaking your latest deck, we spoke to Hearthstone’s lead software engineer, Rachelle Davis, and Mike Donais, senior game designer about what it took to bring the game to mobile, how long it took and how it’s even invading classrooms too. I would like to comment on the 9 deck Limit. It really should not be an issue for the majority of players for the following reasons:. Although I can see the argument against this limit, that it reduces options, what would you consider a good number of custom deck slots? One thing to note, this 9 deck limit is not set in stone by any means. As with many of the features of Hearthstone, the developers are very committed to pushing a direction that caters to what the community wants.
If only 9 decks does indeed prove to be too low, and it causes a lot of issues for the typical Hearthstone playerbase, then there will obviously be changes. While I agree with most of your points, I still think that they should still stick with the 9 deck limit. Just like with their other games, a player should have limitations on how many characters or they could create.

Blizzard’s fantasy Magic: The Gathering-like card game, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, released on iPad on April 2nd and against my better.
Blizzard has put out many games over the course of its 20 year existence, but never one quite like Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. On a cultural level it was certainly a challenge for Blizzard to bring its card game to market, as Blizzard has notoriously high expectations internally for the games it releases — and Hearthstone was no exception. Historically, that meant something awesome and huge and with a ton of spectacle.
Could we make an incredibly physical game? It was a challenge re-imagining epic so that it worked for a smaller team, and figuring out how we could hold true to what we think of when we think of a Blizzard game. The game has been in development for several years, and was initially intended as a PC release. The choice to develop the game using Unity came fairly early on, and helped ease the challenge of bringing it to multiple platforms.
After we did that evaluation, we made the decision to bring the game [into] the mobile space, and the fact that we used Unity made that an easier transition. It was a natural fit for mobile devices, so that actually worked really well. But the tech base really allowed us to get the prototypes up and running very quickly — I think that really spoke to how well Unity really helped us out with the project.
